Alone in the Crowd

When reading this passage I was struck by how alone this woman appeared to be. Her bleeding was not only a physical ailment, but it was also preventing her from being a part of the community. I felt her desperation to not only be healed, but to also be accepted. I wanted to create a kind of ‘Where’s Wally’ feel to this collage and ask the question ‘who is in our crowd that no one is noticing?’ Because while no one noticed this unclean woman in the crowd, Jesus did. And in the simple act of noticing her, he was able to make her whole again, not just healing her sickness, but reintegrating her into the community again.

Pencil and felt on paper
My artwork shows Jairus’s daughter’s eye reflecting her parents rejoicing with Jesus. Her iris bears the words:
Hope that their daughter is alive.
Joy that she is.
Complete thankfulness to the Man who saved her.
Jesus is our King.
I came to this idea by thinking about portraying the daughter’s perspective, as many people don’t think about the girl and how she would have felt.
