Creative Co-op

waves and land

To celebrate the release of the album, ‘Into the Deep’ we are inviting you to respond to the songs with your own creative offerings.

Perhaps there’s a song that inspired you to go and take a series of photographs, or write a haiku, or paint a picture, or create a sculpture. Maybe the song has arrived at a poignant moment in your life and you’d like to tell us about that, or perhaps it has inspired a certain action or way of life that’s new. Whatever it is, we’d love to know about it. Our hope is to publish a companion volume to go with the album, full of your creations, and the stories behind the songs.

So, get creating! Email us at ness@onevoice.org.nz to let us know what you’re doing, or to send us an image that we can upload here in the meantime.

Here is Jordan Redding’s response to “Waiting for the Dawn”:

Over Easter this year I did a personal daily reflection and made a habit of writing a song each day to move me through the Easter story.
The lyric “I can almost hear his footfall on the threshold of the door” reminds me of my Holy Saturday song where I reflected on the time of waiting and uncertainty, this liminal space in which we currently dwell, waiting in anticipation for Jesus to come again

Liminal Space

We are waiting, Father,
to see your kingdom come
Alone I’m lost and lonely
but gathered by your Son
We will
Walk through the liminal space:
This time of waiting
to see your kingdom come
your Spirit aiding
Walk through liminal space:
the cross behind us
and through your Son, our Lord,
his hope before us

We are working, Father,
to see your kingdom come
Alone my deeds are nothing
so let your Spirit come
so we can
Walk through the liminal space:
This time of waiting
to see your kingdom come
your Spirit aiding
Walk through liminal space:
the cross behind us
and through your Son, our Lord,
his hope before us

Let your kingdom come
On earth as in heaven
in heaven…

So we can…

Walk through the liminal space:
This time of waiting
to see your kingdom come
your Spirit aiding
Walk through liminal space:
the cross behind us
and through your Son, our Lord,
his hope before us

Here’s Cate’s response to the album as a whole:

Fred was listening to ‘How Long, O Lord?’ when he wrote this poem:

Stumbling, falling, moving forward, forward
Darkness snatching, biting blood soaked heels
Miles of cries a journey never ending
Fear overwhelming, suffocating, restricting
Heavenly silence muting the flicker of hope almost gone

Where to where to, how far till You hear
Reaching blindly, eyes burning, tears weeping
How far still to fall before before this ends
Please…….please……hear me

Silence, peace, time stops, steps no more to take
Lie down here too tired to fear
One more snatched breath then time to go
No more cries, no more tears to flow
I am forgotten……

Rowan’s reflections on the song, ‘Christ before me’ can be seen in this image he’s created.

David has been think on the song, ‘Our Father is waiting’ and connecting with it through his gift of poetry (you can read more of his poems and thoughts here).

Where I Wait
You asked where I went
As if you already knew
Here under the willow tree
Is where I wait for you

You felt abandoned
Like you had no clue
Here under the willow tree
Is where I wait for you

You thought I left
As fast as the morning dew
Here under the willow tree
Is where I wait for you

Will you come back to me
I can make all things new
Here under the willow tree
Is where I wait for you
