They came with clubs
Ready to fight
To take this man of peace
Deep in the watches of the night
They cornered him like a thief
Betrayed with a kiss
From one he had loved
In a flurry of flame and blade
He lifted his hands
And called out ‘Enough!’
And gave himself to harm’s way
You can’t take
What’s been given to you
And my life has been yours all along
In the bread that’s been broken
The wine that was poured
Was the promise for you and yours
There’s no need for your fear
or your sword
Enraged and aggrieved
Their justice was blind
Bent on seeing him die
They couldn’t agree
Just what was his sin
So they sealed his fate with a lie
Blindfolded, beaten
Bloodied and raw
Our violence was betrayed
As darkness fell
And covered the earth
The gift of heaven was made
You can’t take
What’s been given to you
And my life has been yours all along
In the bread that’s been broken
The wine that was poured
Was the promise for you and yours
There’s no need for your fear
or your sword
You can’t take what’s
Been given to you…

We have set this website up to share the resources from the book ‘The Illustrated Gospel Project’,
plus the extra stuff that we couldn’t fit in the book.
But there is still room! Room for what you and your community of faith might create in response to God’s creative Word at work, and at play in your midst.
So if you create a drama, a song, a prayer or a responsive reading, we’d like you to share it.
