New song for Advent: This isn’t the End
I’ve been wrestling with Luke 21:25-36, which is the lectionary reading for this week – the first week in Advent. It’s an easy passage to avoid. But as I’ve stayed with it, I’ve noticed some things worth paying attention to. This song grew out of that.
Lyrics:
We strain our ears for hope’s whisper is rising
We train our eyes on the farthest horizon
For the clarion call that cuts through the din
That stirs us to stand, that stirs us within
For the darker it grows the brighter hope’s blaze
At the end of the world our God makes a way
For this isn’t the end but a dawning new day
Though it comes through pain
Still our God will save
Though hearts grow faint and courage is waning
Though seas may rage yet still we are waiting
For the clarion call that cuts through the din
That stirs us to stand, that stirs us within
For the darker it grows the brighter hope’s blaze
At the end of the world our God makes a way
For this isn’t the end but a dawning new day
Though it comes through pain
Still our God will save
