Songs for GA #2 – ‘Revive the flame’

So, Ray Coster, the incoming moderator (he’s like a Pope that we can exchange after two years) has chosen for his theme, ‘Reviving the flame: Living in the power of His presence, and the presence of His power.’

Ray’s hope is that Christians can move beyond thinking of themselves as ‘sinners’ and start to understand that in Christ, we are ‘saints’ – God’s children, God’s beloved – whichever way you spin it, it’s Good News!

So I wrote this song called, ‘Revive the flame’ to give us a way of articulating this reality/hope. I tried to be realistic about the ‘now and not yet-ness’ of the world we live in, and also to focus on the margins – where God seems to like doing the bulk of God’s work.

Please comment and share if you enjoy it!

Here’s the song: Revive the flame ver2

And here are the lyrics:

Not by our merit, but by your grace
All for your glory, we’re running this race

Into the darkness we see Kingdom-sparks
Sparks of your Spirit, igniting our hearts

Revive the flame, burn bright again
That all creation may see that by your Gospel we’re free
Revive the flame, burn bright again
Then let the good news resound: that what was lost has been found

So kindle your people, a spark in the gloom
Til we are burning, but still not consumed

A voice from the margins preparing the way
A crucified saviour now risen again

Revive the flame, burn bright again
That all creation may see that by your Gospel we’re free
Revive the flame, burn bright again
Then let the good news resound: that what was lost has been found

The voiceless will kind their song
And we join their cry, ‘How long?’
Til heaven and earth collide
And all of creation will shine

Revive the flame, burn bright again
That all creation may see that by your Gospel we’re free
Revive the flame, burn bright again
Then let the good news resound: that what was lost has been found

    Hi Malc
Great song. The challenge for us to live into what it states. Quite a challenge really! Best wishes!
